Manufacturing Process

The Kooboo rattan arrives in coils with a length of about 6 metres. It's a vine which grows around and up trees in the Far East.

Each coil is cut into 42" lengths, care being taken that any defective rattan is discarded.

The lengths are soaked in cold water for seven days.

Then they are steamed, inserted in a straightening/curving rig, and left to dry for seven days, thus ensuring the body is as straight as possible and that the grip is as smoothly curved as possible.

The cane is then sanded to remove the nodes (or knuckles), the tip is rounded for safety, and the crook-tip is chamfered for comfort.
